If we teach AI to respond with empathy, who decides what empathy looks like?
Cultural differences, personal values, and even corporate agendas can shape how “care” is defined in a machine. What feels supportive to one person might feel intrusive to another.
Developers face a delicate balance: create AI that is helpful without pretending to be human. The goal should be support — not emotional manipulation.
As we push forward, we need to ask: are we creating empathy in AI, or just the illusion of it?
